Tidepools are home to marine life such as crabs, sea urchins, cowries, sea stars, sea snails, sea cucumbers, and small fish. Spotting the creatures that live in the crystal-clearpools is a fun time for the whole family. When exploring the many tidepools, mind your own safety along with that of the fragile animals. Look more than you touch, and always return an animal gently to the spot where you found it. Replace rocks just as you found them, since many creatures shelter beneath them. Don’t turn your back on the ocean — you never know when a wave will crash into you, or worse, sweep you out to sea. Protect your feet and beware of potential danger from venomous or otherwise harmful sea creatures. It is against the law to break or take live corals or rocks covered with sea life. If exploring with children, pick up a fish ID card to make the activity educational and more enjoyable; the card also flags which animals are harmful.
