Night Market

Explore East Asian street food in a beachside setting

BY Brooke Rehmann

Looking for something fun and unique to do on Friday nights? ‘ULU Ocean Grill + Sushi Lounge, located within the Four Seasons Resort Hualālai, is currently offering a Friday Night Market experience where the chefs present their interpretations on street food dishes from around East Asia in a fun, lively atmosphere. Guests can relax along the beachfront location and be transported to the continent of Asia as Chef Richard Polhemus and his team offer a revolving menu, highlighting some of their own personal favorite dishes from the region, complemented with local produce from around the Hawaiian Islands.

This unique experience attempts to recreate the fun and excitement of the East Asian night market experience, where a variety of roadside stalls line up to sell their own specialty dishes in a busy, exciting atmosphere, but reimagined in a way only the Four Seasons Resort Hualālai could pull off. Past dishes have included savory Korean seafood pancakes, crispy Korean fried chicken, delectable pork belly bao buns, as well as Szechuan style beef stir fry, using Szechuan peppercorns, known for their floral and numbing qualities, flown in from a specialty market in New York City.

Chef Richard and his team are enjoying the inspiration of this concept, and hope as COVID-19 wanes, to have the chefs serving the food outdoors in front of the guests, similar to the stall set up in your favorite East Asian city. “We’ve been having fun with food,” Chef Richard says. “We’re always trying to keep things fresh. Come join us.”
