Mālama Pono

Pacific Whale Foundation's Mālama Pono program invites residents and visitors to restore Maui's land and sea through hands-on cultural and conservation experiences.

In ‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i,mālama pono means “to take care and do what is right.” Pacific Whale Foundation’s program Mālama Pono embodies this value by inviting both residents and visitors to take part in experiences that restore Maui’s ‘āina(land) and strengthen a connection to place. Through hands-on opportunities, like caring for coastal areas, supporting native restoration, and partnering with local community groups, participants practice mālama pono in action. Each activity is rooted in respect for culture, land, and sea, encouraging habits of care that extend well beyond a single afternoon. By coming together to protect Maui’s ecosystems, locals and travelers alike can honor Maui’s natural and cultural heritage while ensuring its vitality for generations to come. Find upcoming opportunities through the Mālama Pono calendar.
